But that is not as shocking as this - did you know the first-ever burger was made in New England?
Did the first hamburger come from Germany?
Nope. Well, maybe.
The truth is, that the origin of the hamburger is a bit unclear. Many people, including myself, would have just assumed the first hamburger came from Hamburg, Germany.
It just makes sense - by the name anyway.
Well, that is not necessarily true. Although many believe Germany inspired the first hamburger, it is not clear that the first ever documented/created burger came from Hamburg.
Where was the first hamburger made?
I do not know about you, but I do not like old wives tales. I need hard evidence. And I think I found it...
According to the Library of Congress, the first ever documented hamburger sandwich came from Connecticut. By the way, the Library of Congress is the largest library in the world with some of the most historic precedents found in its millions of pages.
The birthplace of the hamburger was the tiny, and adorable, Louis' Lunch in New Haven, CT, according to the restaurant's website.
The restaurant still prepares the burgers the same way today as it did back in 1895: between two pieces of white toast and served ONLY with cheese, onion, and tomato.
