We understand why fireworks are so much fun. They're exciting, loud, and colorful—what’s not to love? It's not just the pyromaniacs in Maine who love them; almost everyone enjoys a good fireworks show.
Whether it's for a holiday or a special event, fireworks light up the sky and our spirits. But when can you legally use them?
Before using consumer fireworks in Maine, it is important to check with your local city, town, or community for any restrictions or prohibitions.
If there are no local ordinances, Maine Public Law Chapter 416 outlines the rules for using fireworks. Make sure to follow these guidelines to ensure safety and compliance.
When dealing with fireworks, always prioritize safety and be aware of any specific rules in your area.
The Fire Marshal’s Office of the Maine Department of Public Safety provides specific guidelines for the use of consumer fireworks. According to § 223-A. §§ 8 (A), consumer fireworks may be used between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on most days. However, exceptions are made for July 4th, December 31st, and the weekends immediately before and after these dates, when fireworks may be used until 12:30 a.m. the following day.
Additionally, people are permitted to use consumer fireworks only on their own property or ‘on the property of a person who has consented to the use of consumer fireworks on that property.’
Furthermore, § 223-A. §§ 11 (D) prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from purchasing, using, or possessing consumer fireworks in Maine.
Violating these regulations results in a civil fine ranging from $50 to $500, plus court costs.
Certain types of fireworks are entirely banned in Maine, as outlined in the 'General Guide to Consumer Fireworks Use.' Prohibited products include missile-type rockets, helicopters and aerial spinners, and sky rockets and bottle rockets.
