Watch: Amazing Northern Lights Timelapse Over Moosehead Lake

More than 1,400 still frames, shot between 10pm and 3am on Moosehead Lake went into making this stunning timelapse of a summer Aurora in Maine.

On June 23, Mike Taylor headed up to one of his favorite spots in Maine to capture the beautiful Aurora Borealis.

Moosehead is located just above 45 degrees latitude, and is a great place for observing the phenomena.

If you've never been, it's one of the most beautiful places in Maine.

But your chances of seeing an Aurora all depend on the sun, oddly enough.

Solar flares (big eruptions on the surface of the sun) emit "solar winds" that travel toward Earth, and the ionizing radiation reacts with our electromagnetic field and atmosphere to produce these colorful light displays.

They're most common towards the North and South poles.
