Southern Aroostook vs. Deer Isle-Stonington

The defending champion Southern Aroostook Warriors will play for yet another state title next week after defeating Deer Isle-Stonington Saturday in the first game of the day at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The top-seed Warriors (17-2) held a double-digit lead for much of the contest on their way to a 62-49 win over a tough Mariners squad.

Junior Sydney Brewer led the Warriors with 17 points, putting her one point shy of 1,000 career points. Junior Makaelyn Porter also had 17 points. Senior Kassidy Mathers had 10 points in the win.

Deer Isle-Stonington was able to briefly cut the lead to nine points late in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer, as the Warriors were able to maintain their lead.

Taylor Hardy led he Mariners with 14 points. Lillian Gray had nine points and Kaylee Morey added eight.

It was the first loss of the season for Deer Isle-Stonington. The Mariners finish the season at 18-1.

Southern Aroostook will play for the state title against the Class D south champion at 2:05 p.m. on Sat., March 2 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
