The University of Maine at Fort Kent is proud to announce that Behavioral Science student, Glenroy Osbourne, has been accepted into the elite PreLaw Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) program at the University of Maine School of Law in Portland, Maine.

The four-week summer immersion program provides students with opportunities to develop professional and leadership skills to help them in future careers.

“Any opportunity for our students to become engaged in civic leadership is a win for UMFK,” said UMFK President John Short. “We encourage our students to be involved in their communities and use the skills they learn to affect the change they wish to see.”

Student applicants are assessed based on their application as well as their grade point average and letters of recommendation. Osbourne’s nearly perfect GPA as well as glowing recommendations made him an easy choice.

“Mr. Osbourne has consistently demonstrated a commitment to his learning and service, which is supported by his accomplishments in and outside of the classroom,” said Shawn Graham, LCPC-C, CADC, assistant professor of human services. “Mr. Osbourne is a student athlete and currently serving as President of the Behavioral Science Club. It is also important to acknowledge that Mr. Osbourne’s commitment to his learning extends beyond his educational goals at UMFK.  I am thrilled that Mr. Osbourne has begun exploring graduate programs and plans to continue his education after his time at UMFK.”

While the PLUS program is often utilized by pre-law students, any student with leadership goals may apply. Osbourne holds several leadership positions at UMFK and feels that this experience will open him up to new learning opportunities.

“Honestly, I did not know what to expect, however, due to the multitude of opportunities for growth that the program offered, I was compelled to apply,” said Osbourne. “After reading my letter of acceptance I was elated, not just because I was accepted but because my efforts and hard work were recognized. Right now, I am looking forward to broadening my array of knowledge whilst enjoying the company of like-minded individuals.”
