According to police, the first crash occurred just after 9:30 a.m. in Kouchibouguac, when a van got stuck at the top of a ditch filled with water, and came very close to rolling over. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Néguac, N.B., was arrested at the scene by RCMP.

The second crash occurred at around 3:15 p.m. at the on-ramp onto Highway 11 near Cocagne, when a car lost control, spun around and landed in the ditch. The driver, a 52-year-old Cocagne man, was also arrested at the scene, said police.

In both instances, the vehicles left the road and went into the ditch.

Impaired driving is a very serious crime,” says Sgt, Patrick Tardif. “These two incidents could easily have resulted in collisions involving others and leading to fatalities. We’re asking all New Brunswickers to help prevent needless deaths by never drinking and driving and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police as soon as it is safe to do so.”

Charges are pending in both cases.
