Vine, the video app that allowed users to post short, looping videos from Twitter, is being discontinued.

According to a press release linked from Vine's official Twitter account, the team behind Vine announced that it will be discontinuing the mobile app, which was launched in 2013. The release added that users will still be able to access already created Vines for the time being.

Nothing is happening to the apps, website or your Vines today. We value you, your Vines, and are going to do this the right way. You’ll be able to access and download your Vines. We’ll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website.

The release did not give a reason  for the discontinuation, but a story from the Associated Press said that Twitter, which is looking for a buyer while losing money, planned to cut about 9 percent of its 3,800-person workforce.
