George Stevens Rolls Over Fort Fairfield To Claim Third-straight North Title [BOYS]

The two-time defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles once again will play for the gold ball after handily defeating Fort Fairfield Saturday night for the northern Maine crown.

George Stevens stared early, pressing the Tigers and converting the resulting turnovers into easy layups. The Eagles were dominant throughout on their way to a 62-39 win.

Senior Taylor Schildroth scored 29 points in the win. Senior Max Mattson 12 points.

Tigers standout Isaac Cyr found himself in early foul trouble, but finished with 14 points to lead the Tigers.

Undefeated Houlton Defeats Dexter in Overtime [GIRLS]

Senior standout Kolleen Bouchard led Houlton over Dexter Saturday night to claim the Class C north title and yet another trip to the state finals.

Bouchard scored 27 points -- surpassing 2,000 for her career -- in the 33-30 overtime win over the defending Class C north champion Tigers.

It was no easy win for the undefeated Shiretowners, as the No. 2 Tigers -- led freshman by Peyton Grant -- took the defending Class B north champs to the wire. Houlton moved to Class C this year.

Bouchard was able to tie the game at 28 on a three-pointer with 24 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Shiretowners outscored the Tigers 5-2.

Hermon Stays Perfect, Defeats MDI On Way To State Final [BOYS]

The undefeated Hermon Hawks stayed perfect as they held off a late run by the defending state champion MDI Trojans Saturday to claim the Class B north title and a trip to the state finals.

Junior guard Cody Hawes had a big game for the Hawks, pumping in 16 points in the 51-38 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Hawks (21-0) started strong, opening up a 22-point lead at halftime. MDI was able to cut the lead to nine points late in the in the game. However, MDI was unable to close the gap as they were forced to foul, and Hermon was able to sink its free throws at the end of the game.

Winslow Outlasts Presque Isle In Overtime To Claim North Crown [GIRLS]

Winslow needed extra time to tame the Presque isle Wildcats, but when the final buzzer sounded the Black Raider were the northern Maine champions for the first time since 2005.

It was the third upset of the tournament for the No. 6 seed Black Raiders, who bested the No. 5 Wildcats 43-39 in overtime Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The game was tied at 36 for much of the fourth quarter, as each team tried to slow the pace and hold the ball for a final shot.

Haley Ward and Meghan Bernard each had 13 points for the Black Raiders, who will play for the state title on Friday in Bangor. Paige Trask added nine points for Winslow.

Bernard sealed the game by hitting key free throws in the game's final seconds.

No. 1 Woodland Defeats Jonesport-Beals in Nail-biter [BOYS]

Top-seed Woodland will head to the state title game after defeating No. 2 Jonesport-Beals in a tight north region final at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The teams split in the regular season and Saturday's contest proved just how evenly matched the teams were this season.
When the buzzer sounded, Woodland came away with a 40-37 win and claimed their first regional title since 2009.

Senior Justin Worden had 13 points in the win over the Royals. Sabre Phelps added seven points and Drew Hayward had six points. >>FULL STORY>>

Top-seed Southern Aroostook Claims North Crown [GIRLS]

The Southern Aroostook Warriors claimed the regional title in the first game of Championship Saturday with a win over the Woodland Dragons at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Top-seed Southern Aroostook held only a four-point lead at the half, but broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the No. 2 Dragons 17-8 on the way to a 55-41 win.

Sophomore guard Makaelyn Porter led the Warriors with 19 points. Freshman center Kacy Daggett added 13 points. Sydney Brewer had nine points.
