It's hard to pick the best album in a group of genres -- Americana, alt-country, bluegrass and folk -- that not only can be hard to define, but also keep expanding. It's even harder when the artists in those genres are making such good music.

The year 2017 has been a big one for the Americana, alt-country, bluegrass and folk genres. Newcomers have produced music beyond their years, and genre staples have taken their music in a new direction.
