Let’s be honest—‘cheap’ might sound negative, but words like ‘affordable’ and ‘inexpensive’ feel a whole lot better, don’t they? We’re all about enjoying great food, and while we don’t mind paying extra for quality, sometimes it’s nice to find something delicious that’s easy on the wallet too.

Now that we’re on the topic, what even qualifies as the best ‘cheap meal?’ It sounds pretty subjective, right? What criteria are we working with here?

Cheapism's recent report, ‘The Best Restaurant for Cheap Eats in Every State,’ highlights affordable and highly-rated dining options across the U.S. The list was curated using reviews from TripAdvisor, Yelp, and Zomato, along with recommendations from local newspapers and magazines. Featuring a mix of long-standing favorites and rising stars, each restaurant offers delicious meals for $15 or less, excluding tax and tip.

Alright, with that out of the way, let’s get to it. Which restaurant in Maine—one that’s quite popular, too—serves up the best ‘cheap meal?’

Again, according to Cheapism, their top pick for Maine is a Mexican restaurant in our largest city, Portland. Taco Escobarr is Cheapism’s choice, and here’s what they had to say about it:

Taco Escobarr more than does its part to add some culinary diversity to lobster-happy Maine. Eater Maine says it's one of the best spots for tacos in the state, calling out the wide variety of tortillas and fillings, with many options under $10. The cheap burritos are also great, reviewers say.
