Austin, Texas-based Americana group the Band of Heathens are premiering the music video for their song “Deep Is Love” exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch.

The Band of Heathens' “Deep Is Love” video kicks off with a couple texting about heading to one of the band's shows. Live shots of the band performing in an intimate venue are interspersed between shots of the couple Instagramming their lunch, taking selfies and generally documenting their day on social media. The clip pokes fun at the millennial obsession with serving up a picture-perfect life on the internet.

Directed by fellow Texan Savannah Welch, the “Deep Is Love” music video comes with a much heavier story than the one told by the song’s lyrics and in its video: During the making of the clip, Welch (who is also an actress and member of the Texas country band the Trishas) was involved in a freak car accident that resulted in her losing her leg. In the aftermath of the accident, Welch raised more than $100,000 from fans and fellow musicians via GoFundMe to pay for her treatment, and has been recovering in Texas.

“Deep Is Love” appears on the Band of Heathens’ newest album, Duende. The band has earned plenty of acclaim for its energetic live shows and performed at iconic venues such as Austin City Limits and SXSW.
