These two, fun-filled events take place on Thursday, Aug. 10th at the Aroostook Centre Mall and Friday, Aug. 11th at the Houlton Rec Center. Both events run from 10AM-12PM. These two events will be the second and third of its kind being held this summer.

Earlier, a summer reading celebration was held at Fort Kent Elementary School, where just about 100 children participated.  The events are an extension of the Summer Slide Backpack Program coordinated by UWAin partnership with Katahdin Trust Company.

Summer Slide provided all Aroostook County first graders with a backpack and three books for summer reading, all in the hopes of encouraging children to read throughout the summer to curb the “summer slide” of reading skills and to promote literacy.

The fun-filled Summer Reading Celebrations will include a “Toes and Tattoos Parlor,” games, prizes, arts and crafts, face painting, book giveaways, and more.  Put the dates on your calendar to attend one or both of these fun, children’s summer events.
