The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office said Thursday night’s fire in Belfast started in the attic, destroying the offices of Penobscot McCrum on Pierce Street.

Investigators said the exact cause cannot be determined because the building was destroyed in the blaze. A cleaning crew reported the fire around 6 pm. No one was injured.

An excavator was used at the scene to assist firefighters. Officials said the building’s cellar is all the remains.
