Just when you thought winter was finally over, a significant winter storm is headed our way.

According to Environment Canada, the storm is slated to be one of the worst of the winter season.

Significant snowfall and high winds are expected to hit the Maritimes on Wednesday morning and is likely to bring up to 50 cms of snow to Nova Scotia and up to 25 cms for the Fredericton area. The storm is expected to taper off by early Thursday morning.

Strong winds are forecast to develop ahead of the system on Wednesday and persist as the system pulls away Thursday, heading to Newfoundland.

The national weather forecaster is urging people to monitoring the forecast in the coming days.
