Seconds Count: Make Sure First Responders Can See Your House Numbers!
In an emergency, every second counts.
When you call 911, and first responders have been dispatched and are on their way to where you are, precious time can be lost if they can't find the right address because your house isn't properly numbered, or the numbers aren't visible.
Putting in a little bit of time now to make sure your house numbers can be seen from the road could save you precious time in the long run if you're ever in dire need.
According to a recent post by the Biddeford Police Department, many Maine home numbers are either too small, have been damaged during the winter, or just plain can't be seen from the road.
"In Maine, it is very important that any posted number be placed high enough not to be obscured by snow during an average winter...The next time you drive home, look to see if your number is noticeable from the street. If you can’t see it, most likely we won’t."
They recommend walking to the road in front of your home and checking for yourself.
