Officials are warning that the fire danger is high across most of Maine, with dry conditions and high winds elevating the risk of wildfires.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday for most of Maine, except Coastal Hancock, Coastal Washington and the northwest portion of the North Maine Woods. Central and southern Aroostook County are included in the warning area.

The National Weather Service says with wind gusts around 30 mph throughout the day Sunday, grass or brush fires could spread very rapidly and become out of control.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Forecasters say a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will create dangerous fire weather conditions. Fire officials warn against any outdoor burning.

At this point, no significant rainfall is forecast for the coming week in Aroostook County.
