The Presque Isle Historical Society is very pleased to announce Richard Rand has been named “Director of the Year”.

The award was bestowed upon Rand at the organization’s annual meeting held at The Hampton Inn on Wednesday, May 16th.

Rand, a retired math teacher, has been a member of the Historical Society and served on its board for numerous years.  In addition to volunteering for several projects each year, Rand has been instrumental in the Society’s efforts to preserve local history through his work with oral history interviews of our area elders.  The knowledge contained in these interviews is priceless for future generations.

Rand also owns a restored 1946 potato truck and often works with area school groups to demonstrate how potatoes were picked by hand and then how the barrels were hoisted onto the truck bed.

Presque Isle Historical Society, an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit corporation, was founded in 1963.  Its mission is to study, promote and preserve the history, culture, heritage and artifacts of Presque isle for present and future generations.  For more information on the Society and its many programs and events, visit www.pihistory.org, call (207) 762-1151 or email pihistoricalsociety@hotmail.com.
