Maine State Police responded to the crash shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to a news release from Sgt. Jeff Clark. Police say 28-year-old Jonathan Willigar, from Houlton, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger north on Route 1.

Willigar told police that a black SUV crossed the center line and he swerved to avoid the vehicle. Clark said the pickup skidded off the northbound side of Route 1 and struck a tree on the driver’s side.

State Police say Willigar was not wearing a seat belt. He was transported by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His truck was a total loss.

Trooper Ryan Kilcollins investigated the crash. If you have information about the black SUV, you are asked to call the Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton at 532-5400.

The Monticello Fire Department and Houlton Ambulance were also on the scene late Thursday.
