Police Say Distracted Driving Led to Fatal Crash in Hermon
Police say an argument led to a head-on collision in the Bangor area late Monday that claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman and seriously injured two others.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, a 2003 Jeep Liberty was heading east on Route 2 in Hermon just after 5:30 p.m when it crossed the center line and struck a 2012 Ford Fusion. The driver of the car, Karen Worcester of Carmel, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the driver of the SUV, 52-year-old Rebecca Chasse of Carmel became distracted while having an argument with her daughter, 29-year-old Rachelle Welch who was a passenger in the vehicle.
Chasse and Welch were taken to separate hospitals in Bangor. The accident remains under investigation. The Sheriff's Department say no charges have been filed at this point.
