While northern Maine is already past peak foliage conditions for the 2014 fall foliage season, the coast of Maine is just beginning to see those bright colors.

Color sweeps across the state of Maine this week from Millinocket and Mt. Katahdin to Camden’s Mt. Battie, giving new meaning to the phrase “peak” foliage, and forming a gorgeous backdrop for Columbus Day weekend activities.

Gale Ross, Fall Foliage spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry says, “Don’t delay in planning your fall foliage trip for this upcoming weekend as we are starting to see the colors of fall come alive along the immediate coast and amid the gentle slopes and mountainsides surrounding Camden Harbor. The Capitol district (zone 3) will also start reaching near peak conditions this weekend as well.”
