The Texas native made national news last fall when she defied state-imposed quarantines in New Jersey and Maine after she returned from Sierra Leone, where she treated Ebola patients. Her arrival in Maine made Fort Kent ground zero for the debate over protocols for health care workers returning from West Africa.

She won the right to be free from quarantine and later moved from Fort Kent. She’d been living in southern Maine while commuting to work in Boston.
