A Fire Chaplain for the North Lakes Fire and Rescue department has received certification.

North Lakes Fire and Rescue Fire Chaplain Lon Cyr got the certification at a recent course held in Lisbon. Cyr has been a firefighter for nearly three decades and is also a member of the Region 5 Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team.

The intense 2-day course was the first of its kind in Maine in over 10 years and dealt with topics such as dealing with a line of duty death, “active situation diffusing”, active listening, denomination and cultural diversity, and others. It also gave participants an opportunity to network with other Fire Department Chaplains from around Maine and Texas, whose Fire Chaplain led the course. Madawaska Chaplain George Sullivan also attended the course representing Aroostook County.
