It's that time of year again... the roads get dicey, and the state of Maine begs for plow drivers.

The Portland Press Herald is reporting that the State of Maine and the Maine Department of Transportation are looking to hire more snow plow drivers to handle state-maintained roads this winter, to keep us all safely on the move throughout our winter storm season.

The biggest reasons for the current shortages of plow drivers are the average ages of the current ones - drivers are retiring and it's harder and harder to find replacements, with the current hyper-competitive job market taking a toll as well. The Press Herald says that private contractors are now taking on the roles of what once was the domain of state plow drivers and workers.

This happened last year too, but the shortage this year is now up to a whopping 46 open plow driver positions.
