A Brunswick man was arrested on methamphetamine charges Monday as he was getting off the train in Brunswick.

At 4:30 PM on September 30, Maine Drug Enforcement Agents assisted by Brunswick Police, Amtrak Police and State Police arrested 44 year old John Katula as he returned from Boston with a shipment of “crystal” meth. As he exited the Amtrak Downeaster in downtown Brunswick. Katula was found to have a large quantity of meth on him, which drug agents say was going to be distributed in Cumberland and Androscoggin counties.

Seized were 108 grams of “Crystal” methamphetamine with a street value of $10,000,  and other items associated with distributing the drug. Katula was transported to the Cumberland County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000 and he was expected to make his initial court appearance Wednesday in Portland

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency is charging Katula with:

  1. Trafficking Schedule W Drugs – Methamphetamine (Class A)
  2. Possession of a Schedule W Drug - Methamphetamine (Class C)
  3. Violation of Conditions of Release

Katula was currently out on bail stemming from a Violation of Protection from Abuse Order.        .
