New Brunswickers are opting for higher education.

According to the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, there was a 13% rise in the number of students at New Brunswick’s four public universities who graduated with master’s degrees in the last 5 years.

According to the report, 542 students graduated from a New Brunswick university with master’s degree in 2011. Meanwhile 3,674 undergraduate degrees were given out, a drop of 12% over the same period.

Over the last 10 years there has been a 33% jump in the number of master’s degrees being handed out. By comparison, 49 doctorate degrees were earned in 2011, a drop of 17% in the last five years, but an increase of 20% over the last decade.
