Maine is about to become the first state in the Union to use a system of ballot counting called "Ranked Choice Voting" to select nominees for office this fall.

Our primary election is coming up on Tuesday, June 12, and instead of just picking your one favorite candidate this year, you'll be able to rank them in order of preference.

According to Matt Dunlap, the Maine Secretary of State and the top Maine election official, here's how Ranked Choice Voting will work at the polls:
