Maine Woman Charged with Daughter’s Murder is 7 Months Pregnant
BELFAST, Maine (AP) — Defense attorneys say a Maine woman charged with murder in the beating death of her 10-year-old daughter is 7 months pregnant.
Rockport attorney Steven Peterson said Thursday Sharon Carrillo is expected to give birth to her and her husband's third child in May.
Julio and Sharon Carrillo, of Stockton Springs, are charged with murder in the death of Marissa Kennedy in their home. The Carrillos told police they'd beaten the girl for months and they tried to make it appear her death was an accident before calling 911 Sunday. Julio Carrillo is the girl's stepfather.
Former neighbors say they reported abuse months ago to police and state health and human services' officials. A DHHS spokeswoman says the department can't comment.
The couple has been ordered held on $500,000 cash bail.
