Maine Turkey Hunt Over For Year
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — It's almost safe to be a wild turkey in Maine again, just as the focus shifts to Thanksgiving and the birds' farmed brethren.
Maine's fall wild turkey hunt ends on Monday. Hunters pursue wild turkeys in most of the state with shotguns and bows and arrows.
The numbers of turkeys that hunters are allowed to bag depends on the part of the state where they are hunting. In wildlife management districts clustered mostly in southern and coastal Maine, the limit is two.
Hunters are limited to only one bird in parts of central and Downeast Maine. The hunt is closed in most of far northern Maine. Hunters are advised to check with authorities before hunting.
