Jodi Rell, former Governor of Connecticut, has been quoted as saying, "At the end of the day, the goals are simple: safety and security." Maine takes that seriously.

Our friends at WalletHub.com just came out with statistics that show Maine as the over-all second safest state in the Union.

The stats were measured on 48 key safety indicators grouped into five different categories.

Some of these indicators were:

  • Assaults per capita (ranked #1)
  • Unemployment rate to total loss
  • Climate disasters

The good news is that Maine ranked as the second safest state in America just behind Vermont. (Another New England State)!

The top safest states are Vermont, Maine, Minnesota, Utah, and New Hampshire.

The top states that are the most unsafe are Mississippi (#1), Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Florida.

This is great news for those of us living in the Pine Tree State. However, we still must keep an eye out for those that might want to do ourselves, friends and family harm.
