Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 103 calls for service in and around Aroostook County this past week. Here are the incidents featured in their weekly report:

Incident Type: DRUG ARREST Date: 9/23/2018 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. PESCITELLI Brief Synopsis: Troop F received information of a vehicle transporting drugs to the area from a tip provided to them by agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. The Presque Isle Police Department had received information earlier in the day indicating that there was a significant amount of heroin that was being transported to the Presque Isle area. Presque Isle Police Dept. shared the info with Maine Drug Enforcement and the information was passed along to members of the Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and Houlton Police Dept.

At approximately 2200 hrs. Troopers Pescitelli and Bell stopped the vehicle traveling north on the North Rd. in Houlton for a traffic violation. Sgt. Fuller and Tr Sylvia assisted in the investigation and as a result of the subsequent investigation, the vehicle was searched and a significant amount of suspected heroin was located along with a small amount of methamphetamine and a loaded handgun. The occupants of the vehicle, Alberto Vasquez age 40 of Presque Isle and Jeffrey Sarmiento age 32 of Woodland (Aroostook County) were arrested without incident and transported to the Aroostook County Jail. Both were charged with Class A unlawful trafficking in schedule drugs and Vasquez was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule Drugs, Class A, and Unlawful Possession of Schedule W Drugs Class C. Sarmiento was charged with Unlawful Trafficking in Schedule Drugs Class A, Possession of Schedule W Drugs Class D and Operating After Suspension.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 9/24/2018 Town: LUDLOW Trooper: TR. LEVESQUE Brief Synopsis: Tr. Levesque is currently investigating a theft of tools from a saw mill in Ludlow. The victim noticed the theft and reported it to the State Police. Tr. Levesque is currently working to develop information and leads pertaining to this incident.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 9/24/2018 Town: MONTICELLO Trooper: TR. SYLVIA Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia began working on a theft complaint when a Monticello resident reported his livestock trailer had been stolen from his property. The trailer had last been seen approximately 2 weeks ago, and had been stored on the man’s property. The investigation is ongoing.

Incident Type: BURGLARY/ CASE SOLVED Date: 9/25/2018 Town: PATTEN Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell received a complaint of a burglary that occurred on the Shin Pond Road in Patten. Several items had been taken from a camp. Through the investigation, Tr. Bell summonsed a 17 yo male juvenile for the burglary and theft and recovered the stolen property.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 9/28/2018 Town: BLAINE Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement on US Highway 1, Blaine. He observed a vehicle come up behind and then pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was driving 87 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Cpl. Quint stopped the vehicle and the man said he was speeding so he could get around the other car because it kept applying its brakes. The man had a dash camera on his windshield but stated it did not record the incident he described. The man had an adult woman and two small children in the vehicle. Cpl. Quint issued the man a criminal summons for exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph or more.

Incident Type: DRUGS – VCR/OAR - WARRANTS Date: 9/28/2018 Town: WOODLAND Trooper: TR. KILCOLLINS Brief Synopsis: Tr. Kilcollins was called-out for a vandalism of woods equipment complaint in Woodland. While speaking with the complainant he saw a truck pass that he knew was in the yard earlier. Tr. Kilcollins attempted to stop the vehicle and observed the driver throw something out the window. The vehicle eventually stopped after approximately two miles. The male driver was found to have suspended driver’s license and was on seven different sets of bail conditions. The man also had two active no-bail arrest warrants. Caribou PD responded to assist Tr. Kilcollins and located the item that was thrown from the vehicle. The item tested positive as heroin using the TruNarc. The man was arrested and taken to the Aroostook County Jail for charges of OAS, VCR, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Unlawful Furnishing of Schedule W Drugs, as well as the two warrants.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 9/28/2018 Town: BLAINE Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement on US Highway 1, Blaine. A single vehicle was driving north at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was driving 86 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. Cpl. Quint stopped the vehicle and the teenaged driver stated she was not aware how fast she was driving. Cpl. Quint contacted the girl’s mother and informed her of the incident. The girl had an intermediate driver’s license. She was issued a summons for her speed.

Incident Type: WARRANT ARREST Date: 9/28/2018 Town: STACYVILLE Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell and Tr Pescitelli responded to Staceyville after a male subject called looking for a ride from a residence. The male had a warrant for his arrest and Tr Bell arrested him on the unpaid fine warrant.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 9/29/2018 Town: OAKFIELD Trooper: TR. DUFF Brief Synopsis: Tr. Duff responded to Houlton PD for an Oakfield woman that wanted to turn herself in on an active arrest warrant. Tr. Duff met with the woman, contacted a bail commissioner, and arranged to have the woman bailed. She was going to attend a wedding and did not want to risk being arrested.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 9/30/2018 Town: FRENCHVILLE Trooper: TR. CURTIN Brief Synopsis: Tr. Curtin met with a Frenchville resident when he reported that some scrap metal and junk cars were taken from his property. The complainant felt that a scrap metal company from Canada may have taken the material without his permission. The investigation is ongoing.
