Incident Type: Warrant Date: 8/13/2017 Town: Linneus Trooper: Tr. Bell Brief Synopsis: Tr. Bell observed a male passenger he was familiar with in a truck and suspected he had a warrant for his arrest. Confirmation of the warrant was made. The male was arrested without incident, after pulling into a residence and later bailed from the Troop F Barracks.

Incident Type: ACCIDENT - SERIOUS INJURY Date: 8/14/2017 Town: Linneus Trooper: Cpl. Quint Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint investigated a single motorcycle crash in Linneus. Ronald DuPont, 49 years of age from Linneus, was operating his 1985 Honda Goldwing Motorcycle on the Hodgdon Mills Road, Hodgdon. Ronald lost control of the motorcycle, went off the right side of the roadway, and into the ditch. The crash caused the motorcycle to go end-over-end ejecting Ronald from the machine. Ronald called his wife and had her take him to the emergency room at Houlton Regional Hospital. A passerby reported the crash and Cpl. Dennis Quint responded. Ronald was not wearing a helmet and does not have a motorcycle endorsement on his Maine driver’s license. Ronald told Cpl. Quint that he was testing the motorcycle when the kickstand fell down causing the crash. Ronald was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center via Life Flight for serious but non-life threatening emergencies. Ronald was given a criminal summons for operating without a license.

Incident Type: WARRANT Date: 8/14/2017 Town: Houlton Trooper: Tr. Sylvia Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia arrested a Ludlow man on an outstanding warrant after locating him at a local convenience store. The man was arrested without incident on a warrant for failing to pay restitution of nearly $2,000.

Incident Type: Crash Date: 8/14/2017 Town: North Yarmouth Academy Grant  Trooper: Tr. Sylvia Brief Synopsis: Tr. Sylvia and Tr. Nelson, of Troop E, responded to a motorcycle crash on US Route 2 in North Yarmouth Academy Grant. The investigation revealed that Paul Duel, age 56 and his passenger, Lisa Ann Lotti, age 47, both of Eustis, FL, were traveling southbound on a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle when a moose ran into the roadway in front of the motorcycle. Duel was not able to avoid the moose and after striking the moose, the motorcycle went onto its side skidding into the northbound lane before coming to rest. Duel and Lotti were transported to the Penobscot Valley Hospital before being transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Both were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Incident Type: Traffic Stop Date: 8/15/2017 Town: Frenchville Trooper: Tr. Desrosier Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier stopped a vehicle for littering from a motor vehicle after the front passenger discarded a plastic cup. During the stop Tr. Desrosier discovered the driver had an intermediate driver’s license and was carrying passengers beyond the license restrictions. The front passenger was a 20-year-old male that was visibly drunk. The driver consented to a vehicle search and liquor was found in the back of the car. The 17-year-old female driver was issued summonses for operating beyond intermediate license restrictions and for transporting liquor. The male passenger was issued a summons for possession of liquor by consumption. The parents of the 17-year-old were notified.

Incident Type: THEFT Date: 8/15/2017 Town: Mars Hill Trooper: Cpl. Michaud Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Michaud responded to a Mars Hill residence for the report of a theft/forgery complaint. A woman reported that her bank had contacted her after a woman had cashed several of her checks that had been made out for cash. The woman’s checks had been stolen and someone had used them to withdraw over $1,300 from her account. The investigation is ongoing and surveillance footage from the bank is in the process of being obtained.

Incident Type: Criminal Speed Date: 8/17/2017 Town: Wallagrass Trooper: Cpl. Hafford Brief Synopsis: On the above date, Cpl. Hafford was patrolling on Rt. 11 in Wallagrass and stopped a 20-year-old male for 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Cpl. Hafford issued a summons for criminal speed.

Incident Type: Vehicle Theft Date: 8/17/2017 Town: New Sweden Trooper: Cpl. Hafford Brief Synopsis: A vehicle was reported stolen from a residence in New Sweden. The owner had been arrested the day before and the landlord brought the vehicle to the owner’s residence at his request. The following morning, the landlord saw that the car was missing. Investigation showed that someone went into the house through a window and took the key from the living room and also disabled a video surveillance system and stole 2 large marijuana plants. On August 19th, two people drove this car to the Houlton Jail and Houlton PD checked them in the parking lot because of the file 1 on the vehicle. The owner reported that these people had his permission to drive the car to the jail so he could have a ride home and no longer wanted to press charges against them, saying that they wouldn’t have stolen from him.

Incident Type: Theft Date: 8/17/2017 Town: Weston Trooper: Tr. Pescitelli Brief Synopsis: Male subject from Danforth called to report a stolen vehicle. The Danforth man owns a car dealership in Weston and a male from Weston wanted to test drive a vehicle. The request was denied by the owner but the Weston man took the vehicle anyways. As he was driving away he drove past the Danforth man. The vehicle was located at Dysart’s in Hermon by Penobscot SO and the male was located the same day as the vehicle in Houlton. Houlton Police arrested the man for unrelated charges and Tr. Pescitelli charged him with theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and violation of conditional release.

Incident Type: OUI Date: 8/18/2017 Town: Saint Agatha Trooper: Tr. Desrosier Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier observed a vehicle speeding on the Brook Road, Saint Agatha. During the traffic stop Tr. Desrosier noticed the smell of liquor and burnt marijuana. The 17-year-old male failed Field Sobriety testing and was taken to Fort Kent PD for an Intoxilyzer test. The teen was issued a juvenile summons for administrative violation and for possession of marijuana, which was found inside the vehicle. The teen’s parents were notified.

Incident Type: OAS Date: 8/19/2017 Town: Fort Kent Trooper: Tr. Curtin Brief Synopsis: Tr. Curtin cited a female motorist in Fort Kent for Operating After Suspension. A registration check by Tr. Curtin alerted him to the suspended status of the registered owner’s license.

Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 8/19/2017 Town: Fort Fairfield Trooper: Tr. Casavant Brief Synopsis: Tr. Casavant charged a Fort Fairfield teenager for criminal speed when he clocked the young driver at 90 MPH in a 45 MPH speed zone. The teenager was issued a court summons for his speed and sent on his way.

Incident Type: Trespassing Date: 8/19/2017 Town: Island Falls Trooper: Tr. Saucier/Tr. Sylvia Brief Synopsis: Troopers Saucier and Sylvia responded to Birch Point in Island Falls when owners called and reported that they had kicked out some intoxicated patrons, but they had returned. The Troopers located the subjects and warned them not to return or they would be arrested.

Incident Type: Assist to other LE Date: 8/20/2017 Town: Lincoln Trooper: Tr. Saucier Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier assisted an officer at Lincoln PD with a DRE examination. The subject’s exam showed that he was under the influence of both depressants and stimulants. He had been arrested by LPD for operating under the influence.

Incident Type: BURGLARY Date: 8/20/2017 Town: Easton Trooper: Tr. Casavant Brief Synopsis: Tr. Casavant responded to an Easton church for the report of a burglary. At some point overnight, the church was broken into and property was stolen. This is at least the 3rd church burglary reported in Easton in the last couple of weeks. The investigation is active and ongoing.

On 08-19 Troopers from Troop F joined the MADD walk in Houlton along with about 100 other enthusiastic walkers. Troopers were walking for Darcie Hutchinson of Houlton who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in Connecticut in 1996. The walk was organized by Darcie's sister, Nicole, who is a tireless advocate for MADD. Our Barracks in Houlton sits on land obtained from her family and our street (Darcie Drive) is named after her. Lt. Harris, Sgt. Fuller, K9 Glenni , Tr. Sylvia (and family) and Tr. Pescitelli walked with the group for the 3 mile walk and Tr. Bell and Tr. Adams escorted the group along with Lt. Bickford of Houlton PD and Dep. Johnston from Aroostook S.O. Despite the rainy weather, it was a great turnout for the event.
