Maine Man Convicted Of Killing, Raping Childhood Friend
ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) — A Maine man who was captured on surveillance video carrying the lifeless body of a friend has been convicted of killing and raping her.
Jurors returned guilty verdicts Friday evening in the trial of 22-year-old Jalique Keene. He testified there was a fight after he and the victim, Mikaela Conley, had consensual sex. But he couldn't recall many other events including those depicted on the video.
Law enforcement officials say Keene raped, beat and strangled his 19-year-old former high school classmate in Bar Harbor within 18 hours of his return from Europe, where he'd been playing American-style football.
Conley had given Keene and two other people a ride home from Boston Logan International Airport on May 31. She was killed early on June 1, 2018.
