Eugene "Charlie" Martineau was charged with murder and taken to the Cumberland County Jail following his arrest in Portland Saturday afternoon, according to State Police spokesman Steve McCausland. Martineau is charged with the death of Leo Josephs, who died Saturday at Maine Medical Center.

The baby was brought to the hospital on Wednesday and was being treated for multiple injuries, McCausland said. An autopsy will be conducted at the State Medical Examiner's Office. The mother of the child is 21-year-old Julia Josephs and the couple had been living in Standish, according to McCausland.

Martineau is expected to make his first court appearance Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court.

The Cumberland Sheriff's Office worked with State Police in the investigation.
