Maine Man Charged For Leaving 2 Month Old Son Locked In Car

According to WABI TV, a 24 year old man from Bangor has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child after a Friday night incident.

Isaiah Olson allegedly left his two month old son locked inside his car while he visited friends.

At about 7 PM, Bangor police got a call from a concerned citizen on Griffin Road to report they had spotted a baby in the back of a car.  When police arrived, they found the infant was in the back of the non-running car.  The baby was reportedly not buckled into his car seat.  The child was crying and appeared to be sweating.

Reports indicate that the outside temperature was about 70 degrees at the time of the incident.  There was no word on what the temperature of the inside of the vehicle was.  However, according to research done by Stanford University, at 70 degrees, the inside of the car could easily have been in the upper 80s.

According to Penobscot District Court Judge John Lucy:

The officer did call a tow truck to come open the door.  When the truck arrived, about 20 minutes later, Olson reportedly left the residence to see what was going on with his vehicle.

The officer did not make any effort himself to open the vehicle or break a window to recover the child from the car

As we understand it, the child is okay.

The officer on scene reported that Olson smelled of marijuana, but denied using any.

He has been released on $250 bail and is ordered not to have unsupervised contact with the child.  He is due back in court in October.
