Maine Man Arrested for Threatening Sheriff
A 56-year-old Mexico, Maine man was arrested for terrorizing Thursday afternoon for threatening the life of the incoming Sheriff of Oxford County.
Joseph Salatka was arrested walking along the Roxbury Road in Rumford , a short distance from his home, by Trooper Adam Fillebrown.
The investigation began Thursday morning when a staffer at the State Fire Marshal’s Office in Augusta received a phone call from a man who was threatening the life of incoming Sheriff James Theriault. Theriault had been appointed by the Governor earlier in the week to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former sheriff Wayne Gallant.
Fire Marshals made State Police aware of the call. Both agencies are located in the same building. Theriault was also notified. Troopers tracked the call to Salatka because his phone number appeared on the Fire Marshal’s caller ID.
When Salatka was taken into custody he was in possession of an air pistol. He was taken to the Oxford County Jail.
