Coffeeness analyzed Google Trends data across all 50 states over 12 months—capturing last year’s peak Christmas search activity.

This was done to determine which festive drinks drew the most attention heading into the 2025 holiday season. By comparing search values for a mix of traditional hot drinks, classic cocktails, and modern holiday favorites, they identified the top beverage in each state based on genuine consumer interest.

According to the report, Maine’s favorite festive drink is the same as our neighbor to the west, New Hampshire: apple cider.

Apple cider is also tied for the second most popular festive drink in the country, with espresso martinis, as each one ranks as the top choice in 11 states.

Hot chocolate emerged as the clear favorite festive drink in the country, taking the top spot in 13 states.

Its lead in search interest shows that Americans still crave the simple comfort of this childhood classic during the holiday season, whether it’s topped with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a candy cane stirrer.
