Family Holiday Events This Weekend in Eastern Maine
Tis the season. Tis the weekend. Gather the family and participate or spectate. There are plenty of Christmas activities and many seasonal parades in the Eastern Maine region this weekend.
Here is at least a partial rundown of events for you to consider in your area.
And weather should not be an issue, but if it is check with your local city or town for updates.
Ho Ho Ho…Here We Go
Bangor
Festival of Lights Parade is along Main Street in Bangor Saturday at 4 p.m. followed by the tree lighting in West Market Square. Details Here.
Bar Harbor
Santa’s arrives tonight, Friday the 1st to kick off the season in Bar Harbor at 5 p.m. Santa will light the town Christmas tree and do a special reading of Twas the Night Before Christmas.
After the tree is lit, Santa goes to the MDI YMCA from 5:30 to 7 pm to play basketball. Kidding. Children and families can create holiday crafts will Santa looking over their shoulder and participating in some fun family games. But not hoops.
Blue Hill
On Sunday the 3rd in Blue Hill there is a tree lighting and community Christmas party at The Farmhouse Inn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The George Stevens Academy will play. And there will be a lighting of a giant tree.
However, the Blue Hill town tree lighting will happen on Tuesday the 5th, at the Town Office between 5 and 6 p.m.
Castine
2 Events in Castine on Saturday the 2nd. At Emerson Hall the annual Holly Berry Fair and Dinner takes place from 4 to 7 p.m.
The town’s annual tree lighting followed by the community caroling is between 5 and 6 p.m. on the town green.
Dexter
Busy weekend in Dexter. The annual Tree Lighting is Friday outside of the library beginning at 6 p.m. That is followed by the Town Christmas Party with a visit from Santa at Town Hall.
On Sunday the 3rd at 6 p.m. The Holiday Light Parade runs from the Dexter Fire Station to Maine Highlands FCU.
Dover – Foxcroft
Hometown Holidays are back for this weekend. The Festival of Lights Parade is at 5 p.m. followed by a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Dover Foxcroft fire house at 5:30.
Ellsworth
Here’s the link to the information. The 43rd downtown Ellsworth parade and it is Saturday beginning at Knowlton Park at 4 p.m.
Freeport
If you are up for a road trip, Freeport’s 30th annual Sparkle Celebration begins on Friday with a Parade of Lights. Freeport’s celebration lasts 10 days with many events
Guilford
Hometown Holidays open house at Guilford Memorial Library is Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Lincoln
Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. Lincoln hosts breakfast with Santa at Mattanawcook Academy. There is an admission charge.
Machias
Machias Community Christmas Festival is Saturday the 2nd with a community scavenger hunt between Noon and 5 p.m. which happens throughout downtown. Santa is at the Chamber office between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the Parade steps off at 6 p.m.
Newport
The 3rd Newport Noel parade of lights is Friday the 1st beginning at 6 p.m.
Santa is going to be a busy, busy guy and it is only the first weekend of his busy month.
