Know the word Pomological? Take a bite out of that word. The science of growing fruit.

This Sunday is Maine Apple Sunday. And there are dozens and dozens of apple orchards that would love to welcome you to their farm to participate.

Picking your own, or just buying a bag. This Sunday is your day.

Here’s how much I love the phrase "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Check out one of my reusable grocery bags

There are so many varieties of apples and more popping up all the time that it would be hard to not find a favorite apple type. Or two. And there are even apple varieties that were started in our state.

This Sunday is presented by the Maine State Pomological Society. This is year 22 of the event as they say from Wells to Caribou. Orchards will be offering special activities and free samples of apple products.

Maine Apple Sunday starts the peak of the apple harvest when summer apples are still available, but the main crop of fall apples is ready for picking to begin. Picking typically lasts at least until the end of October.

Here’s the map of orchards near you that are participating in Maine Apple Sunday (the 18th). And see the interactive version here.

What are you going to make with all those apples? If you make too much, keep me in mind.
