Teen Seriously Injured in Aroostook County Snowmobile Accident
A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in Littleton when he was thrown from his snowmobile into the path of a logging truck.
Maine State Police say the teen was operating a 1995 Arctic Cat snowmobile north on ITS 83 and failed to stop for a stop sign at the trail's intersection with Gentle Road in Littleton. A 1991 International log truck loaded with tree length logs was traveling east on the Gentle Road, approaching the intersection of U.S. Route 1.
Sgt. Jeffrey Clark said the teen tried to turn left to avoid hitting the log truck. In the process, the snowmobile struck a snow bank and the boy was thrown into the rear wheels of the logging truck, trapping his arm under the tires as the truck came to a stop.
The New Limerick teen was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by Houlton Ambulance in serious condition.
The driver of the truck, Lawrence Schools of Littleton, was not injured.
State Trooper Eric Sucy is investigating the crash.
