An early morning fire Sunday destroyed a small, single-story house on U.S. Route 1 in Littleton.

Firefighters from the Littleton and Monticello Fire Departments responded to the blaze close to the Houlton town line at around 4:00 a.m.  Littleton Fire Chief Dwight Cowperthwaite said a passerby spotted the flames and woke up nearby residents. The building was used as rental property, the chief said, but apparently nobody had been living there for about two weeks.

The tiny house was fully involved when crews arrived.  Sixteen firefighters from Littleton and Monticello worked to bring the fire under control.  There were no injuries. The building was a complete loss.

Chief Cowperthwaite said there was no damage to a nearby home or other buildings, The cause of the fire is unknown.

The property is at 897 U.S. Route 1 in Littleton, near Hubcap Heaven.
