Kane Brown Says Forthcoming Marshmello Collaboration is for His Wife

Kane Brown shared details about his forthcoming collaborative track with electronic music producer and DJ Marshmello during a red carpet interview at Wednesday's (May 1) Billboard Music Awards.

According to Brown, the song will honor his wife, Katelyn Jae, with a dose of brutal honesty -- a departure from Marshmello's chipper Bastille team-up, "Happier."

“We wrote a tune that’s basically the opposite of that,” he explains in an interview with Billboard's Desire Thompson. “It just…tells you everything that I’ve done wrong growing up and it’s saying that the one thing I did get right was you, talking about my wife.”

Brown married Katelyn Jae on Oct. 12, 2018. On April 15, the couple announced that they're expecting their first child. In the same interview, Brown said his "baby fever" is at 100 percent. In a separate red carpet interview with a producer from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Brown revealed that his firstborn is a girl.

The Marshmello collaboration should further the musical footprint of an artist already known for blurring genre lines with his baritone voice and R&B sensibilities, as heard in recent team-ups with Khalid and Becky G. “I feel like God’s given me a different path in the music genre and I’m just excited to be able to be able to do these things,” Brown told Billboard.

Brown didn't take home any trophies at the awards show, but scored nominations in the categories of Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist, Top Country Album (for his self-titled debut) and Top Country Song (for "Heaven.")
