The late Troy Gentry left us a few months ago (in Sept. 2017), but his unexpected and tragic death is still hurting the hearts of his colleagues.

That includes singer Justin Moore, who began adding Montgomery Gentry songs to his live set following Gentry's passing. He recalled a special moment last November with a "flashback Friday" Instagram post Jan. 5. The video was shot at Rupp Arena in Gentry's hometown of Lexington, Ky.—where Moore brought out a very special guest.

"I want to introduce you guys to someone who knew Troy way better than I did," Moore announced to the audience, before welcoming Montgomery Gentry's lead guitarist Bo Garrett on stage and ripping into MG's debut 1999 single, "Hillbilly Shoes."

The audience roared in approval for the tribute to the 50-year-old singer, who lost his life in a helicopter crash that stunned the nation.

The remaining member of Montgomery Gentry, Eddie Montgomery, plans to return to the stage for the first time without Troy Gentry when he and his band launch into the Here's to You winter tour on Jan. 19.

It hasn't been made clear how Gentry's vocal parts will be handled during this tour, which runs through March, but fans can expect a repertoire of the band's hits, as well as selections selections from their upcoming Here's to You album, scheduled for Feb. 2. "Better Me" is the lead single from that album. The rock ballad was released shortly after Gentry's death and was played at a public celebration of his life at the Grand Ole Opry.

This year will mark the 20th anniversary of the band, and Montgomery says he's looking forward to celebrating that milestone.
