Hear Josh Turner’s ‘Deep South’ Album Title Track
Josh Turner has shared the title track of his upcoming album, Deep South. The new track is Turner's tribute to his roots, from the backroads to the front porch swing.
In "Deep South," Turner takes someone who isn't familiar with the southern way of life on an educational tour of what it means to call Dixie home. Musically, the South Carolina native throws it back to country music's '90s heyday with the incorporation of a stuttering drum beat under a chicken-picked Telecaster.
"You say you're from the planet where the tea ain't sweet / You've never seen a chicken that's fried / You've never been up in a big ol' live oak tree / You've never heard of Charley Pride," Turner sings to open "Deep South." "I'm feeling sorry for you 'cause you've been missing out / You made me realize how good my life is / Thank the Lord I'm from the Deep South."
Turner says that the track "Deep South" “represents hard-working people who find joy in the simple things in life: heritage, church, community, high school sports, being outdoors.”
“It is a culture,” the singer adds.
Deep South is set for release on March 10; in addition to its title track, the album also includes "Hometown Girl," Turner's most recent single. The album is available for pre-order via iTunes and at Turner’s official webstore.
