Of the two ensemble films Jeremy Renner is currently shooting, you’d think the one that isn’t an action-packed superhero flick wouldn’t result in a couple of broken bones — but that’s exactly what happened to the Marvel star on the set of the upcoming comedy movie Tag, which centers on a group of friends that have been participating in an intense 30-year version of the titular game. Seems like something along the lines of Avengers: Infinity War would involve a greater risk of physical injury. You would think that, and you would be wrong.

Per Variety, Renner showed up to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this week sporting braces on both arms — the result, he says, of an on-set accident in which the actor sustained fractures to his right arm and left wrist. Renner was on hand to promote his role in the Taylor Sheridan-directed Wind River, but he also answered questions about his other upcoming projects and how his obvious injures might affect filming:

I’m sort of a problem solver, you know. There will be an effect to it, but it won’t stop me from doing things that I need to be doing. I’ll heal fast. I’m doing everything I can to heal faster.

Like a real-life superhero, Renner isn’t letting a couple of busted bones get in the way of his shooting schedule, which was reportedly only slightly altered to accommodate his injuries:

I’m doing a job [“Tag”] that isn’t really requiring a ton of stunts. It’s not an action movie; it’s a comedy. It just happens to have a few stunts in it. So I don’t have to beat a whole lot of people up or do anything crazy. So it won’t really affect my job….It affects how I get dressed in the morning. I can’t tie my shoes, but outside of that and everything else, I can kind of get by.

Despite his lack of superhuman healing abilities, Renner will continue filming his part in Avengers: Infinity War, which is currently in production in Atlanta and features the largest MCU ensemble to date. That film is scheduled to arrive on May 4, 2018. Tag, which also stars Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress and Annabelle Wallis, arrives on June 19, 2018.
