I probably love fast food more than I should.

Although, to be fair, I don't always necessarily count fast food as just things that come from major chains. For instance, I consider gas station pizza, fast food. If I can walk in and out with lunch in less than five minutes, I consider that fast food. I've waited a heck of a lot longer at Mickey D's than I have for gas station pizza.

But like everything these days, most things you buy are becoming increasingly expensive. Inflation has pretty much take control of our wallets, in almost every area of life. Food, in particular. So much so, that even fast food joints are feeling the pinch. Once known as the spot for bargains, fast food is becoming expensive food.

But, one fast food joint is more expensive than all the others.

These days, packing the family up in the car and heading out to McDonald's could set you back a little under $8 per person. A few years ago, you could easily get full on $5 with their Dollar Menu. But even at that price, it's an absolute steal compared to the most expensive spot in all of the US.

The winner of that title is none other than 5 Guys Burgers & Fries. A trip to 5 Guys can set you back nearly $21 per person. These figures are all based on a burger, fries, and a drink, according to a recent study from MoneyGeek.com. That's almost three times what it would cost to eat at McDonald's.

What about some of the other chains in Maine?

We don't have a Jack in the Box location here, so we can't really include them, but we do have the other contenders on the list. Wendy's was the third highest at just over $12 per person for a meal. Burger King was 4th, and McD's was 5th. It just shows that for all that money, you might as well cook at home.

One could make the argument that 5 Guys food is a bit less processed, as they hand cut their potatoes, and cook everything to order. So you might be able to make the case that it may be of higher quality, but that's really up to the person buying it. As the old saying goes... One person's trash is another person's treasure...
