There was an increase in police presence on Center Street in Bangor this morning, as members of the Bangor Police Department dealt with a situation.

A Bangor man is now behind bars after police arrested him in connection with a domestic violence incident they say took place earlier in the day.

According to Sergeant Jason McAmbley, Public Information Officer for the Bangor Police Department, authorities were called to a home on Center Street around 9:30 this morning.

"A female victim told police a male in the residence had physically assaulted her today and had threatened her with a knife the day before. The female had fled the residence and was later located by detectives. The female showed signs of having been assaulted and was transported to a local hospital for treatment."

As a result of their investigation, 51-year-old Jason Reaviel was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

Reaviel will face a charge of Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault, which is a class B Felony.

The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence offers services to those affected by domestic violence.
