National Waffle Day is observed on August 24th. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't need an excuse or reason to admire some waffles, but having an actual, official day to celebrate is like an extra scoop of whipped cream on top.

"Are you more of a pancake or a waffle person?"

While responding with "Why not enjoy both?" might seem simple, I must admit that even though I adore pancakes, I'm firmly planting my flag on the waffle side of the griddle. There's just something about those airy pockets ready to embrace pools of syrup that speaks to my soul.

But let's get down to the sweet, syrupy core of the matter: Who in Bangor crafts the most drool-worthy waffles?

Now, I'm quite positive that the title of “best waffle maker in Bangor” doesn't belong to a restaurant or shop, but rather, I'm sure that there's probably a family tradition or recipe in Bangor that far outshines anything you can purchase. I just wanted to get that out of the way.

After conducting research and reviewing online menus from various breakfast joints in Bangor, I was amazed by the number of places that didn't include waffles on their menus. It's truly surprising. Come on, folks, let's spread the waffle love!

But fear not, one dependable go-to is Dysart’s, the trusty Maine staple. With their array of waffle options, including the "slightly crispy, soft, and chewy" Belgian Waffles and the tantalizing Blueberry or Strawberry Sundae Waffle, they have the power to turn any breakfast into a waffle wonderland.

But the breakfast adventure doesn't stop there. The Tarratine on Park St. has caught my eye with its "Chicken & Waffles" masterpiece, complete with cheddar waffles, chipotle maple syrup, and a lineup of mouthwatering accompaniments that make my taste buds do a little happy dance. Oh, and let's not forget their Buttermilk Waffle, crowned with macerated strawberries, whipped cream, and Maine maple syrup. Are you drooling yet? I sure am.

If that's not enough to tickle your waffle fancy, Nest Cafe on State St. has concocted a delightful creation – their Belgium Waffles adorned with strawberry Nutella or the classic peanut butter, banana, and honey combo. It's like a vacation(land) for your palate.

The Butcher The Baker on Hammond St. is another establishment that features waffle dishes on its online menu. It's described as a "New American Scratch Kitchen." One standout item is their Chicken & Waffles, consisting of "Buttermilk fried chicken, Cornbread waffle, Molasses butter, Apple-fennel slaw, Applewood bacon, and Chipotle maple syrup." According to a Google review, "The Butcher The Baker’s rendition of Chicken and Waffles is an indulgence that transcends the typical. Buttermilk-fried chicken paired with a cornbread waffle, apple fennel slaw, and applewood bacon is a satisfying combination. The waffle remains firm, crumbling perfectly upon each bite. The Chipotle maple syrup is far from overpowering, instead, it seems to have permeated the chicken, creating a delightful, not-overly-sweet flavor that adds depth to every bite."
