The state of Maine has a long, brilliant coastline that covers more than 3,000 miles, and the views are stunning.

The state's lighthouses, many of which are well over 100 years old, only add to the beauty.

Of course, while Maine and lighthouses seem to go hand-in-hand, you'd think that the state has the most lighthouses.

But is that really true?

How many lighthouses are in Maine?

According to the Maine Tourism Association, Maine has 65 lighthouses.

The Tourism Association says that Maine's Midcoast and Islands region, an area that includes Penobscot Bay, boasts the most lighthouses, with 28.

The Midcoast is followed by the Downeast and Acadia region, where 22 lighthouses are located.

Michigan has the most lighthouses in the United States

Turns out, the most lighthouses in the United States are not in Maine, but rather Michigan.
