Houlton Man Makes Initial Court Appearance in Connection with Oakfield Double Homicide Case [UPDATE]

A Houlton man charged with the murder of an Oakfield couple made his initial court appearance Wednesday via video conference from the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

32-year-old Matthew Davis did not enter a plea at the hearing.

Davis was charged in connection with the deaths of 51-year-old Michael Kitchen and 49-year-old Heidi Pratt, whose bodies were found in their burning home in Oakfield early Monday. The State Medical Examiner has confirmed that Kitchen died of multiple gunshot wounds and Pratt died after being shot in the neck.

Davis is charged with setting the Oakfield fire, as well as a fire at the nearby Katahdin Forest Products, and a stolen pickup truck that was burned near a boat landing in Island Falls. Police arrested Davis in another stolen vehicle in Island Falls late Monday morning.

At this point in the investigation, State Police say there is no known connection between Davis and the victims.

Davis is due back in court again on February 19th. He is being held without bail.
