The National Weather Service says temperatures will remain in the 40's Thursday night and Friday. Widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected to cause rises along area rivers and streams. There is also the potential for ice movement and ice jam flooding on the Saint John and Aroostook Rivers, forecasters say.

The flood watch includes Allagash, Clayton Lake, Madawaska, Fort Kent, Frenchville, Presque Isle, Caribou, Van Buren, Mars Hill, Houlton, Hodgdon, Sherman and Smyrna Mills. It also extends to Baker Lake, Billy-Jack Depot, Baxter St Park, Chamberlain Lake, Churchill Dam, Mount Katahdin, Millinocket, East Millinocket, Lincoln Patten and Medway.

The National Weather Service urges people living in areas prone to flooding to be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
